Free wedding websites: what you really pay (and when paying wins)
The «free» wedding website exists — but it is almost never free: you pay with something else. The market runs on three pricing models: zero, between 24 and 69 euros PER YEAR, or between 89 and 400 euros ONCE. This guide translates each model's fine print so you can decide with the numbers in front of you. (Looking for the full option-by-option breakdown instead? It lives in how much a wedding website costs.)
Model 1: "free" (which almost never is)
The big wedding portals give the website away because the website is not their product: you are their product. Their business is capturing you for their vendor directory and selling you extras along the way. The free website usually comes with the portal's logo on your invitation (removing it costs a yearly pack), with mandatory apps for guests to upload photos, and with your wedding data flowing into their commercial directory.
If that trade works for you, it is a legitimate option. Just make sure you know what you are really paying — we lay it out with verified data, platform by platform, in our real-price comparison.
Model 2: subscription (the meter that never stops)
Other platforms charge between 24 and 69 euros per year, or 10 to 20 per month. The number looks small, but a wedding does not last a year: between "we're engaged!" and "thanks for coming" there are 14-18 months on average, and the website should stay alive a while longer for the album and the photos. Do the maths with your dates: two years of an average subscription already costs more than many one-time websites — and if you stop paying, the site goes dark with your memories inside.
Model 3: one-time payment (you pay once, for the whole wedding)
The third model charges a single time for the whole wedding cycle. At Weddara it is 89 euros in a single payment: you build the website for free, with the live preview beside you, and only pay when you publish. It stays live until one month after your wedding (a full year at minimum), with no fees and no surprises. The Premium plan (139 euros) adds your own domain, the seating planner and the QR photo album; and if you have guests from abroad, each extra language living in the same website is +59 euros.
The maths that actually matter
More useful than comparing price tags is comparing what you will use:
- RSVPs with menus and allergies in one clean list? It is the single biggest time-saver of the whole website — and where free tools tend to leave you with loose messages.
- Do guests need to install anything? Every mandatory app is a share of your guests (the older ones, especially) left out.
- Whose invitation is it? If it carries another company's logo, you know who the star is.
- How long does the site live? Until after the wedding, or until you stop paying.
In short
A wedding website can cost you 0, 50 or 150 euros — but the real price only shows with the model in view: with "free" you pay with your data and your branding; with subscriptions, with a meter that runs longer than your preparations; with one-time payment, a closed figure and done. We play in the third model, which is why we tell you all this with our cards on the table.
If you want to see exactly what those 89 euros buy, start your website for free — it takes about 10 minutes and nothing is paid until you publish.
